Joseph Park: This is a most interesting situation. I can't think of too many times that someone has been on the active roster as two different people at the same time. Park, for you non TNA fans, is a lawyer gimmick who's brand new in the ring. He uses lots of insider lingo (and pronounces some of it incorrectly, which is even better), and has a super limited move set. But you know what? This character is fucking awesome. He's entertaining, he gets people behind him, and even though everyone KNOWS he's Abyss, they're really able to put it behind them and just enjoy the gimmick for what it is. A lot of people thought that once Abyss came back, Joe Park would be history. I have a gut feeling that isn't true, and we'll be seeing much more from the law firm of Park, Park & Park.
Abyss: For you hardcore wrestling fans, Abyss is your savior. Abyss is a monster, he bleeds during nearly every match and has the Black Hole Slam as well as a choke slam as finishers. It appears he's been brought back as the savior for TNA against the Aces & Eights, as he destroyed Bully, Devon and Anderson single-handed. Abyss is a breath of fresh air for TNA, and could make the horribly replayed and dull Aces & Eights storyline interesting once again.
If in reading those two blurbs, you noticed that both Abyss & Joseph Park are currently babyfaces, then you probably had the same thought I did: “umm, isn't that a problem?”. The answer, is yes and no. It's not a problem because you don't have to have Park & Abyss feud if they're on the same side, reducing/eliminating the chance they'll ever have to be on screen at the same time. Unless TNA has some horrible booking mishap (which let's be honest here, it's TNA. They probably will), Park & Abyss being on the same side will work out just fine.
However, let's look at a potential problem of having them not only both babyfaces, but on the active roster together. The day after Abyss returned, TNA held a house show. Joseph Park wrestled early in the night, winning his match. Then in the main event, Bully Ray matched up against... you guessed it, Abyss. I have no idea how often they plan on having Park & Abyss wrestle in the same night, but if they plan on doing it frequently you run the risk of burning out “both guys” and losing them for an extended period of time. And Abyss/Park is no small man.
Overall though, this is a FANTASTIC thing for TNA. You take one of your most popular characters in Joe Park, combine that with one of the biggest forces in TNA history in Abyss, put them with guys like Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Magnus, Jeff Hardy, James Storm and so on... well, you've just gotten me more interested. TNA now has a guy back that they never really lost, and could have a positive role in their grand scheme. Besides, a little blood never hurt anyone. THE MONSTER IS BACK!!!
